Final Presentation!

Today my group had to give a presentation to Clare(she did the main branding and part ownership of the cafe), but before all that we had to be prepared. My role was to write up the script for the presentation and I also helped out with some of the PowerPoint. Our main problem throughout the day was that we couldn't get our final design printed in colour. That alone took up a lot of our time and it seemed like all of Parkside didn't have ink for a printer. Since we didn't have a print out of the final design we had to use the photoshopped version of it in our PowerPoint.
For most of the day I helped with the PowerPoint and also learned more of how to use it. I finished the script of our presentation in last weeks lesson so it was ready and prepared.
Me and James were the speakers and Liam worked with the slides for the presentation. Our practice run was good. Me and James switched over from part to part really good and our PowerPoint was good too. We also explained about our practice photos and test shots, so they liked how we based our presentation of the photography part of the project.
For our final presentation I added a few adjustments to our script and shortened it so that it only says from which slide to which slide me or James have to present and that we could add anything off the top of our minds to each others part. This went really well and Clare thought it was really good. She liked how the front of our leaflet was simple and basic and also that it was very eye catching. She also liked how we based our presentation on the photography side of the project(just like how Mr. Hind commented on our practice).
Well to finish off I'm going to put our final design up.
 This is the front
  This is the back

I've also learned that I can give short presentations better when I improvise.

Times almost up!!!

This week we had to finish and print out our flyers so we can present them to the owner of the cafe. Since James knew how to work with photoshop better than me and Liam he worked on the flyer and me and Liam worked on the presentation PowerPoint and I wrote the script. I really should work on my photoshop skills , but I learned more about photoshop and how to use it better since I started CRAM.
I said in my last blog that I would put some photos of our final photo take on the food. Since we our group was the last group and it was getting dark we didn't have a lot of light to work with , but we still did our best and took some great photos.

Me and Liam worked on a PowerPoint Presentation and we scanned our drafts of our flyers so we could put them in our presentation.
This is our first draft of the front of the
flyer
This is our draft of the back of the flyer
and this is the 2nd draft of the front of our flyer

We managed to finish our flyer but couldn't print it out so we are going to do print out next lesson.

It's Photography Time!!

In the beginning of this week I had to do anything that I didn't finish last week , but since I finished everything from last week I didn't do much that first lesson.
We had to practice our food photography skills so I took some test shots with Liam. From some of the photos we took I learned that having 2 background colors clashing makes the food stand out pretty well and also that bending the white card towards the food puts more light on it.
Here are some of the photos me , Liam and James took:

I could have worked on my photography skills a bit more but I still took some good photos.
After taking the test shots we went to the Orange Tree Cafe so that we could take our final shots. We had to go around the back of the cafe so I was able to see some of the kitchen. I only took about 5 shots and mostly helped with the scenery around the food.
I would have uploaded and put the final photos on my blog but I still haven't uploaded it from the camera since our group was the last group that went to photograph, but I will upload them for my next blog.

Questionnaires!!

This week my group went out and asked people near the area that The Orange Tree Cafe is,but before all that we had to prepare for it. When we first came in we all decided to go with the design that Liam drew and maybe add a few things to it. My job was to do the writing of the leaflet and some of the colouring, I also wrote up the questionnaire so that we could write down the answers, comments and feedback we got from people we asked.
After I wrote the questionnaire and printed it out. Me, Liam and James worked on our main design so that we could show people. Our design took a while to get ready and I worked on the back of the leaflet on a different sheet of paper so that we could save time.
Next we headed to Grafton so we could fill our questionnaire.

We asked about 3 people about how they thought of our design. The first said it was good and effective. Then we went in a shop and asked one of the workers and he gave us pretty good tips of how to improve and some additions that we could make to the design. The last person we asked was a worker from a different store and he sort of went along with our design and said it was good. Then we went back and I wrote my questionnaire results in neat and did some blogging before I had to go home.
Hopefully we could use the feedback we got and put them into our leaflet.

Designing the Leaflet

This week I was going to go in my group and start to do a final draft of our designs for our leaflets , but before that we all had to do some work so that we could catch up. Then I went and did some stuff like trying to Print out my blog by taking multiple screenshots , but ended up failing in the process since it wouldn't add another page and all my screenshots ended up all on one page and all messed up.
After break I went on did some research about how much people spend on buying food outside in restaurants and cafes and ended up with a result that people waste around about 20 to 50 us dollars a month so in the UK that would be about 12 to 31 pounds. Also I did some research about the local competition and it looks like Starbucks Coffee is one of the main competition for the Orange Tree cafe , but also there are many other competitions in the local area and in Cambridge itself.
After lunch I went in my group and we started making a design , but later on found out that we had to design our flyers on paper not on the computers. So then we all made a flyer each. Mine wasn't that good mostly because I am a terrible drawer. After we all drew our designs we got photocopies, all except mine cause it wasn't that good.
Next week were are going to put all our ideas and designs into one A5 sheet and present it. For now here are some examples of flyers that stand out:

Getting Started

This lesson we started on our designing and advertising for our leaflets, but first we had to do finish our brief or if we already did that we do a research on food report. Since I finished my brief before I went on did my food research report and looked at some food photography on Google.
After that I went with my group to discuss about how we should design the leaflet and I started making a rough draft while the others designed pictures for the leaflets.
After lunch our group went into the kitchen where we started practicing how to photograph food and I took a few  photos and managed to fix the settings for one of our cameras. That was a cool thing to do since i never done something like that before!
After the picture taking I went on adobe photoshop with my group and fixed the contrast on the photos and also cropped out bits that we messed up on a bit. We did other stuff on adobe photoshop as well and then went on to do other stuff we haven't completed. I went and did the rest of my food research report and added photos and what I had learned from the food our group photographed and put them into words.
Here are some food photography I thought were good:

The Orange Tree Cafe

Well today we were told that we would visit a cafe and also be given a brief about it, but before that we had to do other stuff as well. In the first lesson Mr. Hind told us what we were going to do and after that we did some of our research reports and then went out for break.
After break I continued working on my report and managed to finish part 2 and most of part 3. My goal would have been to finish my report and also to have gotten a folder by that lesson, but couldn't. I mostly used Coca-Cola adverts and other types of cokes as well as Dr. Pepper and Pepsi.
For the first lesson after lunch we got minor information from the cafe we were going to visit. The Orange Tree Cafe opened a few months ago and is fairly new. When we went to see the cafe I hadn't noticed it until we went right in front of it. It was a pretty cool cafe all new and shiny, but also looked expensive. The inside was really good, great photography all around the cafe and also an orange tree by the window! After we took our notes we headed back to Parkside and then Claire (the person who did all the main branding of the cafe) told us all about the cafe like the cafe was called cafe eleven before new management took over.
After the explanation we went and did our brief about the cafe and then left earlier than usual cause of open evening.
